PTSO Meeting Minutes - September 20, 2016

Introductions of PTSO Board Members:

Carly Kidd: English Speaking Co-President

Veronica Velazquez-Barron: Spanish Speaking Co-President

Betsy Lindow: Fundraising Chairperson

Becca Patenaude: Volunteer Coordinator & Room Parent Coordinator

Erika Garcia: Treasurer

Amy Cook: Secretary

Introduction of Amities: Mauricio from Colombia and Ricardo from Chile were present. Three other amities were unable to attend.

    • Amities are visiting teachers from Spanish speaking countries who provide valuable educational support to our school’s students and teachers.

    • Amities stay with host families during the school year. Each host family has an Amity staying with them for one semester.

    • One more host is needed for the upcoming Spring Semester. All that is required to host is an extra bedroom. Contact Stephanie Spencer for more information about hosting: speste@gmail.com (Stephanie promises you can ask for info without committing to host!)

    • Amities also need additional Tios/Tias - adults who are willing to help them with transportation or invite them on outings. Again, contact Stephanie if you would like to support the Amity program in this way.

Purpose of PTSO:

    • The PTSO hosts/organizes numerous fundraising events throughout the year, including restaurant nights, Family Fun Nights at school, Book Fairs, Cherrydale (formerly Chippe Shoppe), and whatever else members (you!) can think of!

    • Our next event is Cherrydale. Cherrydale is a fundraiser in which students and their families sell a selection of products to their friends, families and neighbors. The kick off for this event is next Wed. Sept. 28th. This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

    • Families are always welcome to make cash donations instead of participating in Fund Raising activities. Checks can be made out to RDLS PTSO and placed in the locked PTSO box on the wall inside the school’s front office.

    • How are PTSO funds used? PTSO money is used to support our school community in a wide variety of ways. Each classroom teacher is given $100 of reimbursement from the PTSO for classroom supplies they buy with their own money. All they have to do is provide receipts for their classroom purchases. PTSO has paid for field trips, transportation to field trips, uniform assistance for families, extra underwear for the nurse to give students who have accidents are school, the photo booth at the Kinder Open House, meals for teachers during conferences. Our largest current project is raising money for an addition to our school playground. We have been fundraising for two years and hope to build Summer 2017.

First Family Fun Night: Coming up Oct. 7th. Glow Run and DJ Dance Party at school. Plan on a super fun night!!

Volunteer opportunities:

    • Becca will be posting Sign-Up Genius links on the school facebook page to find volunteers for Family Fun Night, Fall Book Fair, and also to help provide conference food for teachers. If you are not on facebook and want to receive the Sign-Up Genius Links, please contact Becca Patenaude: rapatenaude@hotmail.com

    • Three Room Parents are still needed: If you have a child in the classes of Srta. Alba, Sra. Rendon, or Sra. Jacques, please consider serving as a room parent. Contact Becca if you can help: rapatenaude@hotmail.com

Box Top Collection: An easy way to earn money for our school is to clip box tops from products you already purchase. Many products have seals that say Box Tops for Education on them. Please cut these out and put them in the bins in the front entryway of the school. The school makes $800-$900 dollars a year from this program.

Next Meeting: Tuesday Oct. 25th Please come join us!
