Februrary 16, 2016 RDLS PTSO Meeting Minutes

Post date: Feb 17, 2016 3:30:34 PM

President’s Report:

Sra. Marta is interviewing Amity candidates for next year.

We have divided PTSO funds into two separate accounts:

    1. Playground Fund, which currently has a balance of $25,592.41

    2. Operating Fund, which currently has a balance of $5081.20

The intention is to keep a balance of $5000 in the operating fund to meet school needs and move additional amounts into the playground account.

Little Free Library is up and running in the front foyer, but may be moved to a more visible location soon. Bring a book, take a book!

PTSO Board Elections will be coming soon and nominations are being accepted now. We are in need of a new Treasurer and a new Teacher Representative. If you are interested in one of these positions, or would like more information, please contact Carly Kidd: carly@kidds.net Also, if you know of someone who would be a good fit for one of these positions, please nominate them by contacting Carly.

RDLS Food Needs: We will be holding a Food Drive the first two weeks of March. More information will be coming home with students. It has come to our attention many of our RDLS families do not have steady access to food. Long school breaks, when students do not have access to school meals, are especially challenging. Hungry kids cannot learn to their potential. Currently, a VEAP program provides 40 bags of food for RDLS families in need to take home each weekend. Our RDLS community has 80 families who have requested this food, which means families receive a food bag only every other weekend. Our hope is to provide an additional 40 food bags so every family on the list can take home a bag of food for spring break. If you are in need of food support, please contact Yanitza Yanez, RDLS Outreach Worker, to get your family on the list: yaniza.yanez@rpsmn.org

Book Fair: Our Book Fair Coordinator, Lucinda Versteeg, explained that Scholastic Books have not been able to provide sufficient Spanish titles to meet our needs. Everyone present agreed we should consider looking at other options for at least one of our two annual Book Fairs. Lucinda has been in contact with a company called LA libreria (www.la-libreria.net if you want to take a look). This company sells exclusively Spanish titles and is willing to send books for our Spring Book Fair. This Fair would be in place of Scholastic, as Scholastic’s contract does not allow us to hold both simultaneously. Our current plan is to try to work out the details to have a LA libreria Book Fair in the spring and keep Scholastic in the fall.

There will also be a used uniform sale during spring conferences.
