      1. Funded by the MN Dept. of Transportation, 3 year position
    3. Is it a MN thing?
      1. National program, with routes in MN
      2. Has programs across the state
    4. What is Safe Routes to School (SRTS)
      1. Education
        1. Students learn pedestrian and bicycle skills in gym classes
        2. Community education and awareness
      2. Encouragement
        1. Giving students and parents incentives to bike or walk to school
      3. Engineering
        1. Changing the built environment to make it more safe for anyone to walk or bike to school
        2. Secured grant funding for a study on the traffic flow and infrastructure of school arrivals and departures at all Richfield Schools - will take place in spring.
      4. Evaluation
        1. Program is based on good data; parents’ perception of safety, speed of vehicles on school routes, etc.
      5. Enforcement
        1. Crossing guards, safety patrols, partnering with SROs, school policies that support walking and biking to school
      6. Equity
        1. Ensure that all of the benefits of this work are enjoyed by everyone!
    5. How can you get involved?
      1. Safe Routes to School Committee - will be looking for members
      2. School-specific working groups
      3. Help during SRTS events like “Bike to School Day”
      4. Share your insights and ideas
      5. Ask Will questions about anything bike-related!
